Wickwar parish council consultation

WICKWAR – Parish Council Consultation

South Gloucestershire Council is carrying out a review of the way decisions are made on local issues in your area and we want to hear your views. We want to know if you would like the number of councillors on Wickwar Parish Council to be increased.

Why are we carrying out the review?

As part of the planning for this review we wrote to all parish and town councils asking if they would like to make any changes to their arrangements.  Wickwar Parish Council has asked if we could consult on increasing the number of councillors on the council.

What are the options?

Option 1: The number of councillors on Wickwar Parish Council is increased

It is proposed to increase the number of councillors representing the parish by two so that in future there would be nine parish councillors.  This would allow for effective and convenient local governance, enable a better balance of work across councillors and reflect the increase in the number of residents living in the parish because of recent and planned housing development.

Town and parish councillors are voluntary roles, they only claim expenses, so this change alone should not result in any major changes to the council tax precept charge – this is part of your annual council tax bill.

Option 2: No change

This would mean that Wickwar Parish Council continued to be represented by seven councillors.

Marking a consultation as relevant to a particular audience indicates that it may be of special relevance to people within that group. It doesn't, however, mean that other groups wont find the consultation of interest - we welcome responses from everybody.
For example, education issues may be of particular interest to Parents & Guardians, and so will be shown to people searching the system for parenting issues, but the views of others (eg: Business, Faith Groups) are also relevant.
