All Age Learning Disability Strategy Engagement

All Age Learning Disability Strategy

In partnership with key stakeholders, the council are co-producing and developing an all age Learning Disabilities Strategy that will align with other council strategies. This particular phase of work is building on the engagement work that has already taken place with the support of stakeholders (service users including parents and carers/provider services/professionals from health, social care, education and the third sector.)

What is a Learning Disability?

We have adopted the Mencap definition of learning disabilities: A learning disability is a reduced intellectual ability and difficulty with everyday activities – for example, household tasks, socialising or managing money – which affects someone for their whole life. A learning disability is different from a learning difficulty as a learning difficulty does not affect general intellect. People with a learning disability tend to take longer to learn and may need support to develop new skills, understand complicated information and interact with other people.

Alongside the engagement work we are undertaking with children and young people with learning disabilities, we want to hear from adults with learning disabilities as well as parent/carers of children or adults with learning disabilities.

We have prepared a separate questionnaire for parents and carer's of children, young people and adults with learning disabilities. We have also prepared an Easy Read questionnaire for adults with learning disabilities. Please do take this opportunity to have your say and contribute to the Strategy.

We have produced an Easy Read questionnaire so we can listen and hear the views of adults with learning disabilities in the South Gloucestershire area. This can completed yourself or alongside someone who may need some support in providing their feedback.

Marking a consultation as relevant to a particular audience indicates that it may be of special relevance to people within that group. It doesn't, however, mean that other groups wont find the consultation of interest - we welcome responses from everybody.
For example, education issues may be of particular interest to Parents & Guardians, and so will be shown to people searching the system for parenting issues, but the views of others (eg: Business, Faith Groups) are also relevant.
