STAPLE HILL AND MANGOTSFIELD – Parish Council Consultation
The Council are carrying out a review of the way decisions are made on local issues in your area and want to hear your views. We want to know if you would like a Parish Council created to represent the interests of Staple Hill and Mangotsfield.
Why are we carrying out the review?
We are required to review arrangements for town and parish councils regularly through a process called a Community Governance Review. Arrangements in the unparished areas were last reviewed in 2012 and the current review provides a good opportunity to look again at whether to create a new parish in this area.
What is a Parish Council?
- Parish councils are the most local form of government and are democratically elected representatives of a distinct local community.
- Parish Councils have statutory powers which may be complimentary to those provided by South Gloucestershire Council.
- They focus on very local issues and concerns.
How will the review impact me?
If a new parish council was created for Staple Hill and Mangotsfield this could result in the following changes:
- A stronger voice on what happens in Staple Hill and Mangotsfield, such as planning applications and the management of public spaces
- Greater control over the look and feel of your area, for instance adding additional seating and bins in public spaces
- Better reporting on value for money – the parish council will have to report to you on local spending and how they have delivered what you asked for
How to have your say
We would like to know what you think.

Marking a consultation as relevant to a particular audience indicates that it may be of special relevance to people within that group. It doesn't, however, mean that other groups wont find the consultation of interest - we welcome responses from everybody.
For example, education issues may be of particular interest to Parents & Guardians, and so will be shown to people searching the system for parenting issues, but the views of others (eg: Business, Faith Groups) are also relevant. |
