COALPIT HEATH - Badminton Road, Church Road - Cycle Safety Casualty Reduction Scheme

Background

Between 1st January 2012 and 31st October 2017, 4 injury accidents involving cyclists occurred on the A432 Badminton Road at the junction with Church Road. In 3 of the injury accidents, a southbound car turning right from the A432 into Church Road collided with a cyclist travelling north along the A432. The other injury accident involved a car turning right out of Church Road onto the A432 colliding with a cyclist travelling north along the A432. 3 out of the 4 injury accidents occurred in daylight conditions.

Purpose of Scheme

To reduce the number of injury accidents involving cyclists at the junction between the A432 Badminton road and Church road.

Proposed Scheme

To install a 2m wide green HFS (High Friction Surfacing) strip with cycle symbols for a length of 36.5m along the northbound side of the A432 at the junction with Church Road.

Timescale

The proposed scheme is planned to be implemented during the 2018/19 financial year.
