TORMARTON - A46/B4465 Road Safety Scheme

In the five year period between January 2014 and September 2019 there were nine collisions reported to the police to have resulted in injury at the junction.  Seven of these involved junction type accidents, with the other two involving turning or junction related movements.  The site has long had a trickle of collisions and previous attempts have had limit success.

Purpose of Scheme

To reduce the number and severity of collisions at the junction through a reduction of junction type collisions.

Proposed Scheme

The proposed scheme is to refresh existing road markings on the A46 Bath Road and B4465 Wapley Road, while installing red high friction surfacing in the hatching of the A46 to highlight the change of road layout. We are proposing to install additional hatching on Compass Road to narrow the junction. We will be cutting back the vegetation to improve visibility for vehicles turning out of the B4465.

In addition, we are proposing to install a vehicle activated sign on the approach of the junction. It will be located south of the junction, near to the junction of the M4.

There is a proposal to reduce the speed limit from national to 50mph from the junction of the M4 to where the current 50mph starts.

Marking a consultation as relevant to a particular audience indicates that it may be of special relevance to people within that group. It doesn't, however, mean that other groups wont find the consultation of interest - we welcome responses from everybody.
For example, education issues may be of particular interest to Parents & Guardians, and so will be shown to people searching the system for parenting issues, but the views of others (eg: Business, Faith Groups) are also relevant.
