Background

In 2008 South Gloucestershire Council, jointly with Bristol City Council, were chosen as Britain's first Cycling City. The aim of the project is to transform cycling infrastructure and to pioneer innovative ways of making cycling a real transport option.

Route

Cycling City Route 15 will provide a new north/south link between the Bristol & Bath path at Coxgrove Hill and Station Road, Yate. The route will generally follow the rail corridor using disused railway track, run along field boundaries and existing public rights of way and public highway.

  • providing the opportunity to walk and cycle between the existing paths in the Emersons Green area and the Yate area
  • opening a continuous route for use for commuting, leisure and recreation
  • linking the wider community and contributing to social cohesion
  • utilising a clear corridor and existing public rights of way
  • facilitating use to horse riders over some sections of the route
  • linking with Westerleigh Road and Shire Way
  • introducing sympathetic landscaping
  • creating seating / communal areas if finance allows
providing a direction signing system using finger posts and special symbols where required.

Exhibition

Officers will be available to answer questions and explain plans on Tuesday 13 October 2009 at Shire Way Community Centre.

Consultation Topic Local highways and transportation projects
Geographical area Westerleigh, Yate Central, Yate North
Marking a consultation as relevant to a particular audience indicates that it may be of special relevance to people within that group. It doesn't, however, mean that other groups wont find the consultation of interest - we welcome responses from everybody.
For example, education issues may be of particular interest to Parents & Guardians, and so will be shown to people searching the system for parenting issues, but the views of others (eg: Business, Faith Groups) are also relevant.
