A420 Tog Hill, Gorse Lane & Freezinghill Lane Casualty Reduction Scheme

There is a continuing trend of injuries resulting from vehicle collisions on the A420 east of Wick, on both Toghill and Chippenham Road. The proposals set out in this consultation aim to reduce the frequency of collisions whilst acknowledging there are investigations underway by the new West of England Combined Authority and Highways England that may produce significant changes to traffic patterns in the medium term.

Requests have also been received from local residents and Parish councils for reduced speed limits, road maintenance and road marking alterations.

The purpose of the scheme is to improve junction safety which will include a speed limit reduction on the A420.

New proposals include:

    • Drawing attention to the Culleysgate Lane junction with conspicuous bollards.
    • Implementing a 50mph speed limit from the existing 40mph limit on London Road (outside Limebrook Farm) to a point between the Gorse Lane / Freezinghill Lane junctions and Toghill Barn Farm.
    • Extending the current hatched area at the climbing lane merge.

Please see the consultation documents/drawings for more information.

The drawings showing the proposals are available directly via the links on this page or in the consultation documents section below.

Marking a consultation as relevant to a particular audience indicates that it may be of special relevance to people within that group. It doesn't, however, mean that other groups wont find the consultation of interest - we welcome responses from everybody.
For example, education issues may be of particular interest to Parents & Guardians, and so will be shown to people searching the system for parenting issues, but the views of others (eg: Business, Faith Groups) are also relevant.
