Proposals for the development of early intervention and preventative services for children, young people and families

Consultation Image

South Gloucestershire Council is currently reviewing the services we provide for children, young people and families, especially those that are disadvantaged in any way and at risk of not achieving their potential or the best quality of life.

The council is committed to providing children, young people and their families with integrated, accessible and equitable services that are designed to keep them safe, healthy and inspired to do the best they can. We also need to ensure that our services provide the best value for money in today’s economic climate.

We believe we need to shift our emphasis from providing services to everyone towards supporting those who are most in need – and from reacting to problems towards preventing problems from happening.

We are proposing that the focus of our work in the future should be on joined-up early intervention and prevention, targeted at those most in need.

We would achieve this through a changed approach to children’s centres and youth service provision, the development of new multi-disciplinary teams and by providing programmes of support that have been proven to work.

We also intend to develop a new approach to commissioning services from external providers.

The main elements of provision that are subject to this consultation are:

  • Strand 1:Integrated services for early years (including children’s centres)
  • Strand 2:Targeted support for parents and families
  • Strand 3:Integrated services for young people (including youth services)

Marking a consultation as relevant to a particular audience indicates that it may be of special relevance to people within that group. It doesn't, however, mean that other groups wont find the consultation of interest - we welcome responses from everybody.
For example, education issues may be of particular interest to Parents & Guardians, and so will be shown to people searching the system for parenting issues, but the views of others (eg: Business, Faith Groups) are also relevant.
