Stover Road Community Governance Review

The council is currently carrying out a review of the way decisions are made on local issues in your area, and wants to hear your views. This process, called a ‘community governance review’ will look at whether a change should be made to the parish boundaries in your area.

Why are we carrying out the review now?

We have received a request asking for the parish boundaries between Westerleigh, Iron Acton and Yate parishes in the Stover Road area to be changed. This change if agreed would mean that this area including the three industrial/business estates would become part of the Yate parish area.

Who are we consulting?

As well as seeking the views of all affected residents in the area we are consulting South Gloucestershire district councillors, the affected parish councils and local businesses.

What is the current situation?

The bulk of the area is made up of industrial and business units. At present the boundary between Westerleigh and Iron Acton follows the River Frome and the industrial areas are contained within these parishes. At present no part of this industrial area is in Yate parish.

There are a number of residential properties affected by this proposal. Most of these properties are in Westerleigh parish and a small number are in Iron Acton parish.

What are the possibilities?

There are two possible outcomes of this review. They are:

  1. The boundary is changed
This would mean that the area where you live and the three business/industrial estates would become part of the Yate parish area. Your council tax contributions would finance any assets and resources of Yate parish.
  2. No change - Status quo
This would mean that there would be no change to the boundary and you would continue to live in your current parish. Your council tax contributions would continue to finance any assets and resources of your existing parish council.

You can download a map which shows the current parish boundaries and the proposed boundary change.

What happens next?

When we have had an opportunity to consider all the responses we receive to this consultation, the council will decide what to do next based on the results.

Any amendments would take effect from the local elections in May 2015.

Marking a consultation as relevant to a particular audience indicates that it may be of special relevance to people within that group. It doesn't, however, mean that other groups wont find the consultation of interest - we welcome responses from everybody.
For example, education issues may be of particular interest to Parents & Guardians, and so will be shown to people searching the system for parenting issues, but the views of others (eg: Business, Faith Groups) are also relevant.

  • All residents
